The ballad also topped Billboard‘s radio audience-fueled Country Airplay chart (dated Nov. 25), becoming only the third leader on the list for a female artist’s first entry (promoted to country radio) in almost 12 years.
The 27-year-old Carly Pearce knew that she wanted to write and perform music by age 5. Raised in Kentucky, her roots are steeped in bluegrass and traditional country. She honed her chops playing six shows or more a day at Dollywood and releasing music independently by the time she was 14.
The first career-opening Country Airplay No. 1 by a solo woman since Kelsea Ballerini’s “Love Me Like You Mean It,” which topped the July 4, 2015, chart. Prior to Ballerini, nine years had passed since Carrie Underwood arrived with her first single officially promoted to country radio, “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” which began a six-week reign on Jan. 21, 2006.
